WHICH CHARACTER DO I BELIEVE IS MOST LIKLEY TO SURVIVE IN THE WAR AND WHY?
ELLIE LINTON
Survival takes a lot, especially in war. One person who i think would be able to survive the war is Ellie Linton, from John Marsden’s book, ‘Tomorrow When the War Began’. My reasons for this being, she's very brave & strong, courageous and a good leader.
I think Ellie is most likely to survive because she's brave, strong and believes in herself and the group. Bravery is a very important to thing to have when all you have to rely on is yourself. Ellie earns her bravery a lot throughout Marsden’s book, she does many things you can't imagine people doing. For instant, she blew up a ride on mower to save her and her 2 friends after being chased by a soldier just past the show ground, she also stole a bulldozer to save her friend, who had just been shot in the leg by a soldier. Marsden quotes in the book Ellie saying ‘I’m not gonna hold back. I warned the others that I wouldn’t. Recording like this is so important to us. I guess it’s our way of telling ourselves that we matter. That we mean something. Maybe… Some of the things we’ve done and the friends that we’ve lost… hopefully it all makes a difference somehow’. The quote doesn't say much, but to me it proves she thinks about others as well not just herself and to me that's strong. This is one reason why I think Ellie would survive the War.
Another reason I think Ellie would be most likely to survive is because in the novel she's a strong individual, both inside and out. She has grown up in an outdoor family, she can drive, use a gun, she's independent and she knows how to use most tools in the shed. In the novel she shows how strong she is on the inside by holding everything in until no one's around, her family's gone, her friends are freaking and one in particular has had their house blown up by a flying helicopter right in front of their eyes, yet she still stays strong and sticks around to support and be there for all of them. This is another reason why I think Ellie would survive the War.
My final reason why I think Ellie would survive in the War is because of all her contribution to the group's missions that lead to survival. In the novel there isn't one mission that she had been asked to do where she had said no. She agreed to EVERYTHING! And that shows loyalty, but others before you and just looking out for your friends. She's an amazing person overall, and these are all the reasons why I think Ellie Linton from John Marsden’s book is the most likely to survive.
These would be some of the most important characteristics needed to be in the bush in the middle of the war having no idea what's going on, and still surviving. Ellie is an overall, strong, brave and puts others before herself. These are my reasons why I think Ellie is most likely to survive the war.
